If you thought we might be seeing a revival of Robert Griffin III (or Colt McCoy for that matter), think again.
Jay Gruden backed Kirk Cousins after Thursday night’s loss to the New York Giants by saying there is “no quarterback controversy” on the team.
“No. No. Kirk was fine,” Gruden said after Thursday’s game. “We’ve got to play better around him. There is no quarterback controversy whatsoever.
“We got to do some things around him. We can’t make this all about the quarterback. We got to create some turnovers on defense. We got to continue to run the ball, and the receivers got to make some plays. And Kirk’s got to do better. We’ve all got to do better.”
Cousins was 30-of-49 for 316 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in the defeat. He now has thrown four interceptions in three games and has gone 1-2. McCoy served as the team’s backup while RG3 was inactive against the Giants.
Washington has its options, but it appears Cousins will get at least another game as the starter before they think about making another switch. My guess is they would give McCoy an opportunity before Griffin. Meanwhile, patrons at this bar should continue to capitalize on Cousins’ mistakes.
