Arizona locker room sign warns visitors of ‘extreme heat’

Sports is about gaining a psychological advantage as much as it is about gaining a physical one, and the Arizona Wildcats seem well aware of that.

ESPN’s Chris Fowler shared on Instagram a photo of a sign at Arizona Stadium warning of extreme heat, with on-field temperatures rising to 131 degrees. That sign is, naturally, posted right outside of the visiting locker room. The Wildcats clearly hope that Saturday’s opponent, the ninth-ranked UCLA Bruins, will have the oppressive heat rattling around in their heads before they even take the field.

Of course, Arizona is legitimately warning of the very real dangers of heat stroke (we’ve seen some turf fields get even hotter). But the placement of the sign seems rather tactical and only enhances what should already be an intimidating environment to play in.
