Mike Trout climbs wall to rob home run (Video)

Mike Trout catch

Mike Trout may not get a ton of love from the fancy defensive metrics, but with catches like this, it’s hard to see him as anything other than a stellar center fielder.

The Angels’ MVP candidate robbed the Mariners’ Miguel Montero of a 3-run home run during the top of the fourth inning in Saturday’s game against Seattle with an absolutely spectacular catch:

It’s one thing to stick your glove over the wall and catch a ball that was barely going to clear the fence, but grabbing a hold of the wall and propelling yourself a good 4-5 feet over it to make a catch like that is incredible. That requires a perfect combination of timing, awareness, strength and athleticism, and it was nothing short of impressive.

Trout rated as a below-average defensive center fielder last year and is slightly above average this year. That catch certainly should give him a huge boost.

And how does this catch compare to the incredible one he made in Baltimore three years ago?
