Seattle-based rap artist Macklemore has been known to dabble in the local sports scene from time to time. From celebrating in the Seahawks’ locker room after the NFC Championship Game and “Can’t Hold Us” becoming the rallying cry of the 12th Man to donning a Mariners jersey and honoring late broadcaster Dave Niehaus in the video for “My Oh My.” But with Thursday’s video release of his new single “Downtown,” the 32-year-old rapper may have pulled off his greatest coup yet.
The video features Seattle baseball immortal Ken Griffey Jr., now 45 years old, recreating the pose from his iconic 1989 Upper Deck rookie card (seen at the 1:43 mark).

Once The Kid, always The Kid.
It was a fitting homage by Macklemore to one of the true giants of Seattle sports: a player with possibly the sweetest swing of all-time that managed to thrive clean-as-a-whistle in baseball’s infamous steroids era.
Perhaps the cameo will further boost Junior’s argument as a first-ballot Hall of Famer once he becomes eligible in 2016.
