Arian Foster expected to return by Week 4, possibly earlier

Arian Foster

When Arian Foster suffered a groin injury during practice earlier this month, it appeared that he may wind up missing a significant portion of the 2015 regular season. Fortunately, the Houston Texans star appears to be progressing more quickly than expected with his rehab.

Jayson Braddock of ESPN 97.5 in Houston reports that Foster has already resumed working out in Houston and is expected to be ready to play sometime between Week 2 and Week 4. That report meshes with one from Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, who reported earlier this week that Foster will likely return at the end of September if he suffers no setbacks.

That would be very good news for the Texans.

While Foster just turned 29 and has had trouble staying healthy in recent seasons, he is still Houston’s best all-around offensive weapon when he’s on the field. Foster racked up over 1,500 yards from scrimmage and scored 13 total touchdowns last season despite missing three games. The options behind him in the Texans backfield are hardly proven, as we outlined here.

Very few people are concerned about Houston’s defense heading into the season, but Foster is the engine that makes the team’s offense go. Perhaps he has been rehabbing with a little extra motivation after what Texans owner Bob McNair said about him following the injury.
