Shane Mosley went off on Los Angeles Times boxing writer Lance Pugmire for being critical of the boxer’s fight Saturday against Ricardo Mayorga.
Mosley, 43, is fighting for the first time in nearly two years. He has gone 1-4-1 in his last six fights, and it’s pretty conclusive that he has no business fighting anymore. Ditto for his 41-year-old opponent, who did not fight for over two years after losing to Mosley in 2008, and again took a three-year break from 2011 to 2014.
Pugmire agrees, and he said as much in his article Friday night about the fight:
Train wreck, the boxing promotion.
Saturday’s pay-per-view bout between elderly ex-champions Shane Mosley and Ricardo Mayorga at the Forum is a fight that probably shouldn’t have been made in the first place.
Mosley read the writer’s article and went off on him via Twitter, saying that would be the last interview he gives him.
@latimespugmire last interview you get.

Mosley then accused Pugmire of being paid by a rival promoter, whose fight is opposite Mosley’s Saturday, to criticize the fight.
I love the last minute "bad press" articles "somebody" paid to go out to the press. Lol. Guess they are worried my fight night change boxing

Despite the high up trying to stop it, or paying the press not to cover, trips to Miami, or spreading lies about the fight. We did it. #God

Pugmire then responded to Mosley.
Saw @ShaneMosley_ "shout out" to me last night. Everything he wanted to say about his fight was in my story.

Yes and I'm sure your boss Al is real happy. Enjoy your pay for Press home boy. #Fraud https://t.co/9aFz5PwhGd

“Al” is a reference to Al Haymon, who promotes/represents Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares, who are fighting in a separate card Saturday.
Great cause your not allowed in the building homie https://t.co/mRgUduJVaD

Truth be told, @ShaneMosley, we sent @latimespugmire elsewhere because the other fight was better. https://t.co/Hg0R2woMAV

We understand Mosley is desperate to sell his fight, so any way he can drum up publicity is a good thing for him. But to accuse someone of being paid to trash his fight is ignorance. He is really in denial and should not be fighting at all. I wonder if his return has anything to do with his divorce cleaning him out.
