Now a member of the Colts, Frank Gore is getting his first opportunity to share a backfield with Andrew Luck. It appears Gore is enjoying working with his new quarterback.
Earlier this month, Gore was complimentary of Luck’s ability to command a huddle during an interview with NFL Network, slighting former teammate Colin Kaepernick in the process. On Wednesday, the veteran running back placed Luck on an extremely high pedestal.
“He runs meetings like a coach. Basically, I’m playing with a coordinator on the field,” Gore said on The Jim Rome Show. “He’s a football God. He sees everything, and he sees the big picture of everything.”
“He lets me know when there’s something I don’t see. He’s just different. How he’s in the huddle, off the field, in the meetings, he runs it. He runs the show, even in the off-season, he ran it. One day he had running backs, the next day he has receivers. He’s just different. He’s a football God.”
Luck is making quite the expression on his new teammates. Andre Johnson also had good things to say about the 25-year-old, calling him the best quarterback in the NFL. Considering the list of quarterbacks Johnson caught passes from in Houston, it’s not surprising he’s excited to play with Luck.
Coming out of Stanford, Luck was seen as perhaps the best quarterback prospect since John Elway, who also attended Stanford. Although, Luck is entering just his fourth season, it certainly looks as though he’s well on the way to fulfilling his immense promise. He can make all the throws. He’s mobile. He thinks the game like a coach. Sounds like God status to me, minus the whole still using a flip phone thing.
