“Hoop Life mixtape i’mma try it out/I’mma try out, tryna’ make a route
Up in the club like Dirk Nowitzki/See me on the court if you wanna diss me
Lets play a game of 21, its really fun/I got half court shots and I’ll post you up”
These are just a few of the bars that Bay Area rapper Lil B famously spat in his notorious diss track of Thunder superstar Kevin Durant, and now the Philadelphia 76ers seem to want to take him up on his offer.
The Delaware 87ers, the Sixers’ NBA D-League affiliate, are holding open tryouts for the team in September and cordially extended an invitation to the rapper, whose real name is Brandon McCartney, over Twitter.
Hey @LILBTHEBASEDGOD come tryout for the #87ers in September! #TYBG http://pic.twitter.com/Np43hVTshk

And of course, being a man of the people, The Based God happily obliged.

Lil B already has somewhat of an inauspicious reputation in the National Basketball Association after afflicting Durant and more recently, MVP runner-up James Harden with the harrowing Based God Curse. It won’t be the first time he has participated in an open NBA tryout either, having unsuccessfully lobbied for a roster spot on the D-League affiliate of his hometown Warriors back in 2012.
For a Sixers team that will be trotting out the likes of Isaiah Canaan, Ish Smith, and Pierre Jackson at point guard next season, I can’t even begin to imagine what their depth will look like at the D-League level. This bodes well for the 5’6″ Lil B who, by some Based Miracle, might actually have a shot at making the team.
Now a guy who seems intent on forcing his way into the NBA at every turn may finally be getting the opportunity of a lifetime to do just that.
Let’s hope that open tryout is a No Curse Zone. Stay based, my friends.
