Larry Bowa earns ejection, threatens Daniel Murphy (Video)

Larry-Bowa

Philadelphia Phillies bench coach Larry Bowa went ballistic on Tuesday night, and it appears his frustration was at least two days in the making.

During the seventh inning of a 6-5 loss to the New York Mets, Phillies outfielder Jeff Francoeur jumped out of the dugout to protest after Mets reliever Hansel Robles tried to quick-pitch Darin Ruf as Ruf was still getting settled at the plate. That was all Bowa needed to see.

Bowa, who managed the Phillies from 2001-2004, lost his cool and was promptly ejected. Before he headed into the clubhouse, he threatened Mets infielder Daniel Murphy. Why? Because Murphy flipped his bat after homering during a 16-7 beating the Phillies gave New York on Monday.

“That bulls— flipping your bat,” Bowa appeared to say. “You’re gonna get hit, too.”

While Bowa’s meltdown wasn’t quite as bad as one we saw earlier in the year, he can probably expect a fine for clearly threatening Murphy.

For what it’s worth, the Mets are 69-56 and currently leading the NL East by 5.5 games. The Phillies have the worst record in baseball at 50-76.
