Texas’ football team was caught faking an injury in its game against Cal on Saturday.
Cal was at the Texas 1-yard line and trailing 24-14 before halftime when the shenanigans began. Linebacker Edwin Freeman was trying to figure out whether he should come off the field or not and was caught in between, so he just dropped to the ground and faked like he was injured:
what is this?

Texas’ coaches actually had called timeout so they weren’t penalized for faking the injury, but Cal still saw the shady business. The Golden Bears scored on the next play to make it 24-21 Longhorns.
This is nothing new for Cal. In their fast-paced offense, opposing defenses regularly use this tactic to slow things down. Maybe Texas got the move from Northwestern.
