Stanford CB Quenton Meeks happy to stick it to USC after recruiting snub

Quenton Meeks

There were lots of happy people in Palo Alto Saturday night after Stanford upset USC in Los Angeles 41-31 at the Coliseum. Few were happier than Stanford freshman CB Quenton Meeks.

The true freshman sent a tweet after the win saying how happy he was to stick it to the Trojans after they snubbed him in recruiting by telling him he was too small for his position (he played safety in high school). Meeks quickly deleted the tweet and then sent the following apology:

Meeks had offers from eight Pac-12 schools including Stanford. Colorado, Arizona and Oregon were the ones who didn’t offer him, in addition to USC. He still drew plenty of interest as a four-star recruit, however, and going to Stanford appeared to be the right choice. Not only did his team beat USC, but he also is starting as a true freshman. Oh yeah, and he’ll also have a degree from Stanford if he completes his studies, so he’ll be way ahead of the game.

Sports are full of snubs. How many guys have been passed up by teams in the draft and then spent their career sticking it to those teams? We covered one good example on LBS that panned out, while another hasn’t. But this is what you want to do: take a perceived snub and turn it into a positive the way Meeks has.
