Pacman Jones: Slamming Amari Cooper’s head was a ‘football play’

Pacman Jones Amari Cooper

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was fined $35,000 by the NFL for slamming Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper’s head into his own helmet last weekend, but Jones cannot guarantee it will not happen again.

While some feel Jones is fortunate to have avoided a suspension, the 31-year-old said Wednesday that he plans to appeal the fine because he felt the shot on Cooper was a “football play.”

“Yeah, I got fined. 35K. Way too much for a football play,” Jones told Jeremy Rauch of FOX 19 in Cincinnati. “I’ll appeal. I can’t promise it won’t happen again. I’m an emotional player.”

Jones also felt that the story would not have gained as much traction if not for his checkered past.

“The story is magnified because it’s me,” he said.

Rauch noted that Jones said he learned something from his actions, but he certainly didn’t seem to feel any remorse. You can see a video of the play here.

Cooper actually defended Pacman after the game and said things like that happen when you play football. Jones is probably right about the story being more of a big deal because of who was involved, but this is a guy who has even gone after his own teammates in the past. Pacman brings it on himself.
