Ishmael Adams suspended indefinitely following arrest

UCLA Ishmael Adams

Jim Mora wasted no time disciplining Ishmael Adams following his arrest for allegedly stealing a cellphone from an Uber driver.

Mora announced Tuesday that he has suspended the redshirt junior cornerback indefinitely.

“Obviously, I can’t get into any particulars because it is a pending legal issue,” Mora told reporters. “But as a football coach, as a parent, you hate to see young men get themselves into bad situations. I take it very seriously and I take it very personally as well.

“We consistently, as staff, as a university, as a support group, stress the importance of making good decisions to our young men. We talk about it on a consistent basis. You hope with all your heart that it sinks in, but you don’t always know.”

Adams was arrested Sunday morning nearby the campus police station. He was released from jail Tuesday morning on $100,000 bail.

Adams returned two interceptions for touchdowns last season and was also a special teams star. The first-team all conference selection has started 26 straight games for the Bruins. He is due in court on Sept. 22, which means he could miss several games until then.
