Robert Griffin III liked fan’s Instagram post trashing Redskins, Dan Snyder

Robert Griffin III nuts

Could this be the final straw in the relationship between the Washington Redskins and Robert Griffin III?

The Redskins QB liked a post on Instagram shared Monday night by a fan who expressed support of the quarterback while blaming the team for him.

Here is the message the fan wrote:

As a Skins Fan I’m disappointed in the way my team used this mans talent and potential to do nothing but raise hopes and make a profit. I don’t regret the skins grabbing RG, I do regret having a sorry a– team owner and sorry a– front office who couldn’t put a winning coaching staff together who could actually compete for a super bowl. Griffin does not deserve the blame or bad rap, the man has gone above and beyond since day one to the point of injury, while at the same time being a role model of a person. The Redskins let him fall and did not help him get up. No matter if he’s a starter, back up, or played for another team I will always respect and be a fan of RG3.

RG3 Instagram like

Though Griffin could claim that he just supports anyone who supports him, or that someone else running his account did the “liking,” this comes at a time when his relationship with the organization seems fractured beyond repair.

Griffin used to brag about his influence over team owner Daniel Snyder. Now he’s liking something that calls the man a “sorry a– team owner”? Yeah, that’s going to go over really well with the front office.

A report said Snyder would not block a trade involving the QB he once loved. After seeing this, he has even more reason to shuttle the former Heisman Trophy winner out of town.

Oh, and for those of you questioning how much a “like” on Instagram really even means to a team, just remember how this got one athlete benched.

Red Sox confiscate Don Orsillo posters to hinder fan protest

save Don Orsillo card

The Boston Red Sox told employees to confiscate signs from fans supporting announcer Don Orsillo prior to Monday’s game against the New York Yankees.

News emerged last week that NESN would not be bringing back Orsillo as the TV play-by-play announcer next season and instead would promote Dave O’Brien from the radio team to TV. The news was met with contempt from Red Sox fans who have grown accustomed to hearing Orsillo call their games over the past 15 years.

The news was published last week while the Red Sox were on the road, so the best opportunity fans had to protest came on Monday. The Boston Globe reports that the Sox were prepared for a protest and instructed employees to confiscate pro-Orsillo signs. NESN also moved its pregame show location.

Via The Boston Globe:

To prevent a potentially embarrassing scene, NESN moved its pregame show from Yawkey Way to a more secure spot near the Red Sox dugout. Two Sox employees told the Globe that workers at Fenway turnstiles were ordered to confiscate any signs supporting Orsillo as fans entered Fenway.

The Globe later deleted the line about the confiscation due to “weak sourcing,” but it’s clear the fans have spoken.

In addition to creating signs, a fan group distributed “Save Don” cards to fans.

An online petition protesting the firing of Orsillo also has received over 50,000 signatures.

Did NESN and the Red Sox really think they would be able to fire one of the most popular announcers in town and get away with it? The fans are doing what they can to make their voices heard.

Adrian Peterson accused of fathering another child out of wedlock

Adrian Peterson

Adrian Peterson is being accused of fathering another child out of wedlock.

TMZ reports that a massage therapist claims Peterson impregnated her. The woman hired an attorney to contact Peterson in hopes of securing financial support for the child. The woman’s attorney requested $1.9 million to care for the child for the next 18 years.

Peterson’s representatives reportedly rejected the settlement offer and said he would agree to “reasonable support” if he is proven to be the child’s father.

Peterson got married last year to wife Ashley, who said in June that she was five months pregnant. The child would mark the second for the couple and eighth overall for the running back.

If this baby turns out to be Peterson’s, and if wife Ashley successfully gives birth in the near future, that would put the Vikings star’s child count up to nine. Here is the rundown on all of Peterson’s children.

‘Do Nothing Bitch’ – Ronda Rousey elaborates on catch phrase

Ronda Rousey DNB

Ronda Rousey coined a catch phrase last month that went viral in a matter of days.

The phrase, “Do Nothing Bitch,” or “DNB” for short, is how Rousey describes the kind of woman who does not accomplish things on her own and instead relies on someone else to support them.

She coined the term in a promo video for UFC 190.

“I have this one term for the kind of woman that my mother raised me to not be. I call it a ‘do-nothing b—-.’ Or, I call it a ‘DNB’ a lot of the time,” Rousey said in the video. “The kind of chick that just tries to be pretty and be taken care of by someone else. That’s why I think it’s hilarious if people say that my body looks masculine, or something like that. I’m just like, ‘Listen, just because my body was developed for a purpose other than f—— millionaires doesn’t mean it’s masculine.’ I think it’s femininely bad-a– as f— because there’s not a single muscle on my body that isn’t for a purpose.

“Because, I’m not a do-nothing b—-. It’s not very eloquently said, but it’s to the point. And, maybe that’s just what I am. I’m not that eloquent, but I’m to the point.”

Rousey’s term resonated among women who feel empowered and like they want to be accomplished on their own. However, there are some who are content being housewives.

Rousey appeared on “The Joe Rogan Experience” Monday and talked about the catch phrase with the UFC commentator. Rogan prefaced the talk by saying he heard two women having a discussion about being a DNB, indicating that Rousey had sparked a societal debate. That led Rousey to elaborate on what a DNB is.

“The thing that’s wrong with it is you just contribute nothing to society. All you do is consume. If you’re a do nothing bitch, all you do is spend somebody else’s money and try to look pretty,” Rousey told Rogan. “That’s all you do is you use stuff up. You use up resources and you give nothing. So you’re pretty much a drain on society.

“I was brought up to think that it wasn’t your mission in life to be happy, it was your mission in life to leave the world better than how you found it. And by being a c– bucket, you’re not going to do that.”

That is the hilariously blunt Rousey at her finest.

The response to Rousey’s “DNB” was so great that she created a T-shirt and other merchandise emblazoned with the phrase. She sold thousands of T-shirts with the saying on it:

If you’re a woman, are you more of a DNB or not? And if you’re a man, which kind of woman do you prefer?

Herschel Walker supports Donald Trump’s candidacy for president

Herschel Walker

Last month, Curt Schilling made it known he would not be supporting Donald Trump’s candidacy for president after his comments about Arizona senator John McCain. Trump does, however, have the support of former NFL running back Herschel Walker.

While Walker is not in favor of all of Trump’s stances on various issues, Walker apparently feels strong enough to put Trump at the top of his list of candidates at the moment.

“There’s not a doubt in my mind right now he is my frontrunner,” Walker conveyed to USA TODAY Sports. “I’m not going to say anything negative about him because it’s not true.”

One area Walker does see eye-to-eye with Trump is the idea that a wall should be built between the United States and Mexico.

Walker and Trump have had their paths cross in the past. Walker spent two seasons with the New Jersey Generals of the USFL, which was owned by Trump. Walker was named the league’s MVP in 1985 after rushing for 2,411 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Many aren’t taking Trump and his run for the White House seriously. Walker obviously isn’t one of those people. He sees the 69-year-old real estate developer as the man who can take the country where it needs to go.

“When are we going to get back to what’s best for this country?” Walker said. “I think that’s what’s Donald is pushing to do.”

Chris Archer reaction

Chris Archer had a great reaction to a beautiful catch made by Kevin Kiermaier in center field on Monday night.

Kiermaier robbed Orioles leadoff hitter Manny Machado with a great catch against the wall for the first out the Rays recorded in the game.

Archer was worried that the first batter he faced had hit a home run against him, so he kept the celebration low-key when Kiermaier came down with the grab.

Marcus Mariota: ‘Statistics don’t matter to me’

Marcus Mariota Titans

Marcus Mariota has impressed with a strong completion percentage during the preseason, but the solid stats mean little to him.

The Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback has completed 70.4 percent of his passes for 252 yards and an interception, but his team has gone 1-2 in the preseason.

“Statistics don’t matter to me, just as long as we win the football game,” Mariota said Monday via Titans Online. “As we go forward, I can always put the ball in better places, I can make better decisions and that is what I will continue to do, to try and improve in those areas.”

The former Oregon star has an idea of things he’d like to improve on.

“Taking care of the football, making better decision, hopefully putting our team in a better spot to get first downs,” Mariota said of things he wants to improve. “Just the operation of things, how to handle the play-clock and things like that. I thought we’ve handled it pretty well, but I can always get better at it.”

Mariota impressed at Titans camp by not throwing any interceptions. Though he threw one in his first preseason game and also was strip-sacked, he has really improved since.

We’re expecting Mariota to become a Pro Bowl quarterback throughout his career. That process might take a season or two, but he will do much better as a rookie than many expect. And he’ll prove all those ridiculous doubters wrong.

Trent Richardson cut by Oakland Raiders

Trent Richardson is running out of opportunities in the NFL.

The former No. 3 overall pick is among the first cuts by the Oakland Raiders, Bill Williamson reported Monday.

Richardson was waived by the Indianapolis Colts in March and signed by the Raiders to a one-year deal. The Raiders guaranteed the Alabama product $600,000, but he was so unimpressive in the preseason that they are letting him go. Richardson gained 42 yards on 15 preseason carries for a 2.8 yards per carry average. He also had this terrible play.

This would make three teams that have given up on the former top prospect. Not only did the Browns trade him to Indy, but the Colts were frustrated with Richardson’s weight and accessibility before waiving him. He would be lucky to get one more chance in the NFL before his career ends.

DeAndre Jordan officially severs ties with agent Dan Fegan

DeAndre Jordan

This summer, Clippers center DeAndre Jordan was the face that launched a thousand memes with his free agency escapade. And now, Jordan has officially launched his representation throughout the ordeal out the door.

According to a report on Monday by Brad Turner of the LA Times, Jordan has formally decided to end his relationship with Relativity Sports, including agents Jarin Akana and Dan Fegan.

The firm will still receive its cut from Jordan’s new deal with the Clippers, and the NBA’s leading rebounder last season will be eligible to sign with a new agent early next month.

It was Fegan, of course, that reportedly tried to steer DeAndre to Dallas, being bedfellows with jilted Jordan job-hunter, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. As the days passed after Jordan committed to Dallas, it became increasingly clear that he was pressured into a decision he might not have otherwise made because of the hidden agenda of Fegan, who also represents Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons. DeAndre ultimately had a well-documented change of heart at the 11th hour and wound up returning to the Clippers.

After such an embarrassing negotiating failure this offseason, there was no way that the two sides would elect to continue their business relationship. Like all professional athletes, Jordan needs and deserves representation that will look out his best interests before looking out for theirs.

Or maybe it was really Fegan that decided to drop Jordan after getting wind of the latter’s political views.

Hassan Whiteside shows off ridiculous reach on Instagram

Report: NFL offered to cut Tom Brady suspension to 3 games if he admitted guilt

Tom Brady

Tom Brady and the NFL were never going to reach a settlement in the Deflategate case despite the urging of U.S. District Court Judge Richard Berman, and the reasons why have become extremely clear in recent weeks.

Gary Myers of the New York Daily News reports that the NFL never made a formal settlement offer to the NFL Players Association but indicated the league was willing to cut Brady’s suspension from four games to three if the New England Patriots quarterback admitted guilt.

Sounds like a swell deal, huh?

Myers also reiterated what several others before him have reported — that Brady has been willing to accept a fine for not cooperating by refusing to turn over his cell phone. There has even been some indication that Brady would accept a suspension for non-cooperation, though it is highly unlikely that he would have agreed to sit for three games.

As long as the NFL continues to insist that Brady admit some sort of guilt, a settlement will never happen. In addition to being adamant about protecting his legacy, Brady also would essentially be committing perjury if he admitted he was aware of anything involving tampering with game balls. He denied having any knowledge of wrongdoing under oath during his appeal.

We have known all along that Berman is going to have to make a ruling in the Deflategate case. While almost everything that has happened in court thus far seems to favor Brady’s side, it’s hard to say if Berman was just trying to muscle the NFL into settling. Berman says a ruling is coming either Tuesday or Wednesday.

A fan described as “deranged” was shot outside the WWE Performance Center in Orlando on Monday after police were called to respond to a male trespasser who was believed to possess a knife.

The fan, Armando Montalvo, charged police and was shot by Cpl. Steve Wahl. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Montalvo has a history of incidents at the facility. The WWE says Montalvo spread urine and feces outside the building earlier this summer. The wrestling organization obtained a restraining order against him, according to TMZ, but he returned on Monday with a knife seeking a female wrestler who was not at the facility.

TMZ has more details on Montalvo’s questionable behavior.

On multiple occasions … he allegedly showed up in a wrestling outfit, banged on windows, and threatened to kick everyone’s ass because they wouldn’t hire him. One of the times he was swinging a large chain, and police had to subdue him at gunpoint.

“Unfortunately a deranged individual with no WWE affiliation, who had a court order prohibiting him from being on WWE property, was involved in an incident with an Orange County Sherriff’s deputy in the parking lot of the WWE Performance Center. We defer to the Orange County Sherriff’s department for further comment and information,” the WWE said in a statement.

Police said they have encountered Montalvo three previous times this summer.

Report: Tristan Thompson won’t take below max from Cavs, eyes Raptors

Tristan Thompson

In a saga that is dragging out longer than the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise (RIP Wes Craven), restricted free agent Tristan Thompson continues to hold out for a new contract extension from the Cavaliers. After turning down a five-year, $80 million deal from the team earlier this offseason, it’s become clear that Thompson and agent Rich Paul are not budging. They want Cleveland to offer Thompson a max deal and are not intent on taking anything less. Now, it looks like a contingency plan is beginning to take shape.

Per Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report:

A league source tells me that his agent, Rich Paul, has already made it clear to the Cleveland Cavaliers that Thompson will not sign a long-term deal unless it is a max deal. And otherwise, he is prepared to sign a one-year qualifying offer with the additional knowledge, according to the source, that Paul believes that he can get a max deal with the Raptors next summer.

We’ve already heard about Thompson’s threats to take the one-year qualifying offer for $6.8 million, in which case the 2015-16 season would be his last in Cleveland. I’ve also been vocal over the last couple of months about how the 24-year-old isn’t worth anything close to the max, even considering the impending salary cap eruption. He is a valuable talent to the Cavs that has his niche (rebounding, keeping possessions alive, interior defense, working as the roll man, etc.) and does it well. But with his undersized frame and his sunny-side-up offensive game, he is essentially a role player right now. And role players shouldn’t and don’t get the max.

Betting on Toronto offering the max next summer is an interesting one to parlay, but I don’t know if the Raptors would be willing or able to give Thompson that money. They do have a need at power forward after Amir Johnson signed in Boston this offseason. But the Raptors already have big long-term salary tied up to Kyle Lowry and DeMarre Carroll and just gave Jonas Valanciunas a hefty payday a couple of weeks ago. Their interest in soon-to-be free agent Nicolas Batum is well-known as well, and I’m sure that they want to remain competitive for Canada’s favorite son Andrew Wiggins once his rookie deal expires. Maxing out Thompson would cripple their future flexibility and just doesn’t seem worth it.

My money is still on the Cavs eventually caving and shelling out the max for Thompson as the offseason winds down. The impact of having LeBron “Cleveland Jesus” James in your corner can never be overstated.

Plus you know, it’s fun to root for Dan Gilbert’s pockets to run dry. Go get that max, Tristan!

Ronda Rousey has officially reached icon status.

Artist Jonas Never made a mural of Rousey that appears on the side of a Mexican restaurant called Clutch in Venice, Calif. Rousey was born in Riverside and trains in Glendale, but she lives in Venice and represents the city in fighting.

“Best fighter in the world… and Venice resident #RondaRousey at Clutch on Lincoln,” Never wrote on Instagram after posting a photo of the mural.

Rousey posted a photo of the mural on Instagram Monday and seemed to be proud of it.

“Thank you @never1959 for the beautiful Venice mural!!! Growing up in Venice gives you a real appreciation for street art,and this is the biggest possible compliment from one local to another.”

Never is a very popular artist. His murals appear at various locations throughout Southern California, such as this great “Karate Kid” one I came across in Encino. He also is responsible for the incredible Stuart Scott mural in Westchester.

If you ask me, this is the ultimate honor Rousey has received.

Seth Rollins’ girlfriend Zahra Schreiber fired by WWE over Nazi Instagram posts

Zahra Schreiber

The WWE has fired Zahra Schreiber over her controversial social media behavior, which includes support of the swastika, a symbol most closely associated with the Nazi party.

The company fired Schreiber, who is the girlfriend of WWE superstar Seth Rollins and a NXT wrestler, for “inappropriate and offensive remarks.”

Zahra Schreiber Instagram Nazi

Zahra Schreiber Instagram

The posts in question came from 2012. In one photo posted to her Instagram, Schreiber showed she has two swastika images hanging in her bedroom. The other shows My Little Pony with a swastika armband, arm raised in a Heil Hitler salute, and a Hitler mustache.

Schreiber saw plenty of feedback upon posting the images in 2012 and defended them.

“The swastika means prosperity and luck,” she wrote in response to one comment. “It was around way before hitler turned it into an icon. Take it how you want I could careless. This is too funny.

“it’s really not anyone’s business anyway. I can post whatever photos I want, if you don’t like them my feelings won’t be hurt if you unfollow.”

Schreiber was also part of a controversy in February when naked photos of her were released through Rollins’ Twitter account. Rollins was engaged to another woman at the time, but they split and he is now dating Schreiber.

Schreiber’s Twitter and Instagram accounts are both private now as she goes through this scrutiny.

Between what went on with Hulk Hogan recently and this, we can see the WWE is taking a harsh stance against inappropriate behavior.

Jane Rosenberg improves in latest Tom Brady courtroom sketch

Tom-Brady-Jane-Rosenberg-sketch

Tom Brady was back in court on Monday for a Deflategate hearing, and the now-infamous Jane Rosenberg was once again tasked with drawing a quick sketch of the New England Patriots quarterback.

We’d definitely call that an improvement, especially when you consider that the hearing lasted less than five minutes. If you want to know how much her first sketch of Brady has been talked about in recent weeks, just look at how many members of the national media swarmed Rosenberg on Monday.

Rosenberg, who said she received hate mail after her first drawing earlier this month, told reporters that trying to draw Brady in such a short amount of time on Monday was a “nightmare.”

“I couldn’t even see him,” she said, noting that she basically had to work from memory. “It was really a nightmare.”

Does she think she did a better job this time?

“I don’t know. … I still think he looks a little like ‘Lurch’ [from the Adams Family],” Rosenberg joked. “I’ve been under tremendous pressure. I don’t like being in the limelight. I’m ready to go to the background where I belong and just be an artist.”

Like the rest of us, Rosenberg is ready for Deflategate to be over. She even spent time in her apartment practicing drawing Brady so her sketch wouldn’t be criticized as much this time around. While no one should ever take a court sketch that seriously, we’re thrilled Rosenberg’s first attempt at drawing Brady left us with these hilarious memes.

Mike Shanahan: Kirk Cousins will be a top-10 NFL QB

Kirk Cousins

Mike Shanahan was the coach of the Washington Redskins when the team drafted Kirk Cousins in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. From the sound of it, Shanahan believes the pick was a steal for his former team.

After Cousins was named Washington’s starting quarterback on Monday, Shanahan has some extremely high praise for the former Michigan State star.

“Kirk Cousins is a franchise quarterback,” Shanahan told Dan Hellie of NFL Network. “He will be a top-10 quarterback in this league, no doubt about it.”

Shanahan is more than a little biased. Though Robert Griffin III found success under Shanahan and Shanahan’s son, former Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, in his rookie season, we have every reason to believe RG3 was ownership’s pick. Teams who draft a “franchise” quarterback in the first round rarely draft another signal-caller three rounds later.

After Griffin’s productive rookie season in 2012, he suffered a torn ACL in a playoff loss and constantly disagreed with Shanahan over his rehab and recovery. There were reports that RG3 bragged during his second season about his influence over Redskins owner Dan Snyder, and Shanahan indicated that those reports were true in this very telling interview earlier this year.

Will Cousins be a top-10 quarterback this year? We highly doubt it. He completed 61 percent of his passes last season and threw 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions. The Redskins weren’t suddenly good when he played, though he seemed to be an improvement over RG3 in Gruden’s system. Calling him a “franchise quarterback” just seems premature.

Jay Gruden: Robert Griffin was benched for performance, not concussion

Robert-Griffin-dive-fumble

Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden confirmed on Monday that Kirk Cousins will be the team’s starting quarterback, but not just for Week 1 of the regular season. Gruden tried to simplify things a bit.

“It’s Kirk’s team,” he said.

Gruden said Cousins has “earned the right to be our starter for 2015.” Perhaps more importantly, he openly admitted that the decision to go with Cousins over Robert Griffin III has nothing to do with RG3’s concussion.

The Redskins cannot cut Griffin if he has not been cleared by doctors, but it certainly seems like the writing is on the wall. While there may be hardly any suitors on the trade market for RG3 and his $16.1 million salary for 2016, the situation in Washington has gotten ugly enough.

According to a recent report, Redskins owner Dan Snyder is not blocking the Redskins’ coaching staff or front office from trading Griffin. A report from over the weekend said the exact opposite.

If you want to know how Gruden feels about RG3, just read this. A divorce seems imminent.

Dave Portnoy holds ‘Chris Mortensen lies’ sign on ESPN broadcast (Video)

David-Portnoy-Mortensen-lies

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady met with Roger Goodell and the NFL very briefly in Manhattan federal court on Monday. It took about five minutes to determine that no settlement would be reached, but that was enough time for the official voice of Brady’s defense team to take a shot at Chris Mortensen on live television.

We’re talking about David Portnoy of Barstool Sports, of course.

Portnoy managed to walk up behind ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio with a sign that read “Chris Mortensen Lies” before security quickly shoved him away.

Another Barstool Sports employee later made his way into the shot wearing a “Free Brady” shirt and stood there for quite a while.

If you remember, these are the same guys who literally went to jail for protesting the Brady suspension outside the NFL offices in New York. You can read all about that adventure here.

Of course, Portnoy’s sign was referring to Mortensen’s incorrect report about Deflategate shortly after the scandal first erupted. The longtime ESPN reporter has since denied being played by an NFL source and claimed the Patriots apologized to him.

Judge Richard Berman says he will issue a decision on Deflategate this week.

Hulk Hogan contemplated suicide after racist rant went public

Hulk-Hogan

Hulk Hogan says he contemplated suicide shortly after his racist rant from several years ago went public last month, and the former WWE superstar is asking for forgiveness.

In an interview with Amy Robach of ABC News that aired on “Good Morning America” Monday, Hogan said he was “upset over a situation that happened” with his daughter Brooke and a man she was dating. He referred to the boyfriend using the N-word, which is a decision Hogan said left him alone without his children or estranged wife Linda.

“I was to the point where I wanted to kill myself, you know?” Hulk said, describing how he sat in a bathroom by himself. “I was completely broken and destroyed and said, ‘What’s the easiest way out of this?’ I mean, I was lost.”

Hogan insisted he is not racist but admitted he is “embarrassed” by what he said while his sex tape — which is the subject of a $100 million lawsuit from the wrestler — was being filmed. He said his use of the N-word is a product of where he grew up.

“I’m not a racist but I never should have said what I said. It was wrong. I’m embarrassed by it,” Hogan explained. “People need to realize that you inherit things from your environment. And where I grew up was south Tampa, Port Tampa, and it was a really rough neighborhood, very low income. And all my friends, we greeted each other saying that word.”

Hogan made similar comments during a radio interview in 2012. He used the N-word during that interview as well, and many people initially believed that was the reason he had been fired by the WWE. It quickly became clear that Hogan made far worse comments, including some that were homophobic in nature.

“Oh, my gosh. Please forgive me. Please forgive me,” Hulk said when asked about letting down his fans. “I think if you look at the whole picture of who Hulk Hogan is, you can see over all the years that there’s not a racist bone in my body.

“I’m a nice guy. It’s not, you know, not the Hulk Hogan that rips a shirt off and bang, bang, bang, slams giants, you know? I’m Terry Bollea.”

Hogan went on to discuss how his daughter Brooke’s support for him never wavered, as we saw with this poem she wrote. Hulk has also received support from other WWE superstars, though what he said is pretty inexcusable. The comments he made are hard to forget, no matter how sorry Hogan truly is.

Jane Rosenberg has been practicing for drawing Tom Brady again

Tom Brady court sketch

Jane Rosenberg will get a chance at redemption on Monday when Tom Brady once again appears in federal court in Manhattan, and the courtroom sketch artist has been working hard and sleeping very little in preparation.

As you have probably heard, Rosenberg drew a hilariously hideous image of Brady in court earlier this month during a Deflategate hearing. She said she received hateful emails because of the drawing and has been “terrified” of it happening again.

“I’m concerned about facing another week of all this ridicule,” Rosenberg told the Boston Herald on Saturday. “I think it’s going to be hard for me. I’m terrified about being under the microscope. I hate that. I’m not used to that.”

In order to avoid a similar result this time, Rosenberg has actually been drawing Brady at home in her New York apartment. It appears she has gotten the hang of what the four-time Super Bowl champion really looks like.

On Sunday, Rosenberg told WBZ-TV in Boston that she has been losing sleep over her original Brady sketch.

“I’ve had sleepless nights and Tom Brady’s been in my mind in the middle of the night. I get up worrying about it,” she said. “I don’t like knowing people are really watching what I’m doing. I guess people do all the time, but I never think about it ever. But now I feel like everybody’s commenting and they’re really watching.”

Shockingly, Rosenberg said after the first drawing that she didn’t even know who Brady was before that day.

As we mentioned before, Rosenberg’s Brady drawing led to some of the most hilarious memes you will ever see. The fact that she received hate mail over it is a real shame. In reality, she gave us all a gift.

Kirk Cousins named Week 1 starter by Redskins

Kirk Cousins

Kirk Cousins has reportedly been named the starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins in their Week 1 game against the Miami Dolphins.

According to Dianna Russini of ESPN.com, the Redskins coaching staff informed the players on Monday morning that the team will begin the season with Cousins under center. Robert Griffin III is still recovering from a concussion he suffered during a preseason game earlier this month, though it is unclear if he would have been benched anyway.

With Griffin out in Washington’s third preseason game on Saturday, Cousins completed 20 of 27 passes for 190 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a 31-13 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

To make matters even more awkward, guess who appears on the ticket for Washington’s first game of the season?

A report from over the weekend indicated that Jay Gruden wants to trade or release Griffin, but ownership won’t allow it. A more recent report claims that Redskins owner Dan Snyder would not block an RG3 trade and is allowing Gruden to choose his own starting quarterback.

The Redskins can’t release RG3 while he’s injured, and they may not want to play him to prevent further injury. If Griffin suffered an injury that somehow extended into the 2016 offseason, his $16.1 million salary for next season would become fully guaranteed.

Will Smith’s “Concussion” movie trailer must be terrifying for the NFL

The official trailer for “Concussion” was released on Monday, and the upcoming film must scare the crap out of at least some of the big wigs at NFL headquarters.

The movie, which is based on a true story, stars Will Smith as Nigerian-born neuropathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu. Omalu was the first doctor to pinpoint playing football as a cause of significant brain trauma after he studied the brains of several deceased former Pittsburgh Steelers players. “Concussion” follows Omalu as he tried to attack the NFL and convince people that football is inherently dangerous and costing men their lives.

Will-Smith-Concussion

Peter King of The MMQB has already seen the film, and he conducted a very interesting interview with writer and director Peter Landesman. You can read the interview here.

We know how strong of a product the NFL has, and many people doubt if any lawsuit, premature retirement or blockbuster film can change the way people feel about football. There are always going to be people like this Hall of Famer who would do it all over again no matter what the circumstances. That said, don’t be surprised if another fantastic Will Smith acting performance opens plenty of eyes.

Report: Dan Snyder not blocking Robert Griffin III trade

Jay Gruden Robert Griffin III

Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden is apparently free to trade Robert Griffin III if he can find a suitor.

According to a report from The Washington Post, Redskins owner Daniel Snyder is not forcing his coaching staff and high-ranking team officials to hang onto Griffin. A source told the Post that a previous report suggesting Snyder won’t allow Gruden to trade or release RG3 is “100 percent wrong.”

“It’s up to the coach and everyone is on board with that,” the source said.

New Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan believes that a head coach should have the power to choose his starting quarterback, and Snyder is said to be on board with that philosophy. However, the Redskins may have made it incredibly difficult to trade Griffin by picking up his $16.1 million option for the 2016 season earlier this year.

Very few teams are interested in paying $16.1 million next season — plus the $6.7 million RG3 is owed this year — for an injury prone quarterback who has been terrible during the preseason. Not to mention, Griffin is currently nursing a concussion in the wake of the beating he took during a preseason game last week.

The Redskins could still decide to release Griffin and take a $6.7 million cap hit, but they have to be careful about doing that. They can’t cut him until he is cleared by doctors, and if RG3 suffered some sort of injury that extended into next season his $16.1 million salary for 2016 would become guaranteed.

If what we hear about Gruden’s attitude toward Griffin is accurate, it should only be a matter of time before RG3 is either traded or released.

Troy Aikman: Redskins are more dysfunctional than the Kardashians

Troy-Aikman-Archie-Manning-ResponseIn terms of being successful at what they do, Troy Aikman would take the Kardashian family over the Washington Redskins any day of the week.

During Sunday’s preseason game between the New Orleans Saints and Houston Texans, FOX aired a graphic showing the three quarterbacks — Robert Griffin III, Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy — who made starts for the Redskins last year. Aikman has little hope for their situation.

“It’s pretty bizarre, huh? Someone compared the Redskins to the Kardashians, saying they’re the Kardashians of the NFL,” Aikman said. “I don’t think that’s fair — I don’t think the Kardashians are nearly as dysfunctional.”

Aikman was referring to Redskins studio analyst Trevor Matich, who said last week that the Redskins are “the Kardashians of the NFL” and “an endless dirge of misery.” Matich also said any outsider with no prior knowledge of Washington’s situation would think Cousins is the starter, McCoy is the backup and RG3 is third string.

For what it’s worth, FOX later changed its graphic to make it seem less certain that Cousins has earned the starting job.

As Des Beiler of DC Sports Bog noted, Aikman is certainly right that the Redskins are more dysfunctional than the Kardashians. If reality TV and publicity is the Kardashian’s game, they have been winning at it for years. The Redskins have been doing the opposite.

The cold hard truth is that Redskins coach Jay Gruden wants nothing to do with Griffin, and neither do several high-ranking team officials. Daniel Snyder and the team’s ownership are forcing the coaching staff to stick with their former first-round pick.

Even Jake Arrieta thought Kike Hernandez should have been credited with a hit (Video)

Starlin Castro short hop

Jake Arrieta pitched a no-hitter in a 2-0 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday night, but even he believes he caught a nice break from the official scorekeeper.

In the bottom of the third, Kike Hernandez drilled a line drive to second that short-hopped Starlin Castro, who was unable to handle the hot shot. Hernandez reached on the play, but it was ruled an error on Castro instead of a hit for Hernandez.

“I thought it was a hit, I really did,” Arrieta said in a postgame interview with ESPN. “I thought it was a tough play. Hernandez hit it well. It was a tough short-hop for Castro, but you know, they scored it as an error. Thankfully so — I was able to finish it.”

Arrieta also said he didn’t realize until a few innings later that the play was ruled an error and not a hit.

Official scorer Jerry White defended his call and said he even watched it twice on replay later to confirm his decision.

I thought it was a terrible call and that Hernandez should have been credited with a hit. There really is no doubt in my mind — when you hit a ball that hard and it short-hops a player, you should get a hit.

The consensus on both sides seemed to be that the ball should have been scored a hit.

“Just ask Arrieta. He said (during a postgame interview on ESPN) it was a hit,” Adrian Gonzalez said via the OC Register. “I asked five of their players when they were on the bases and they all thought it was a hit.”

Though Gonzalez says he thought it should have been a hit, he still points out that the Dodgers would have lost on a 1-hit shutout, which isn’t much better. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said the same thing.

“It didn’t change the game at all,” Mattingly said. “If you really want my opinion, I think it’s a hit. But at this point, you get beat and you get no-hit. You’re not going to complain about that after the game. It’s not going to change the game at all.”

Mattingly also said he thought this no-hitter was different from the one less than two weeks ago by Mike Fiers in Houston. He credited Arrieta for having better stuff and shutting the team down, while he felt the players chased bad pitches in the loss against the Astros.

Even though the Dodgers have been no-hit twice in the fewest amount of games since 1923, they do have some fair excuses. In this case, there was a poor scoring decision. In Houston, well, there was this whole issue.

Angels lose two balls in sun during loss to Indians (Video)

Kole Calhoun sun

The Angels got swept by the Indians over the weekend, so it’s no surprise that they looked like a Little League team in Sunday’s 9-2 loss at Progressive Field.

Two outfielders missed routine fly balls during the game, allowing the Indians to score a couple of runs early. The first came when Mike Trout missed a ball in center with one out and a runner on second. His miscue gave Carlos Santana an RBI double and the Indians a 2-0 lead. Four innings later Santana benefited again when Kole Calhoun missed a fly ball in right field. That play allowed the Indians to have runners on second and third with one out. Three batters later, Abraham Almonte hit a grand slam.

Five of the Indians’ nine runs came thanks to the Angels’ miscues.

“I saw it the whole way, I was trying to turn a little bit, and it just kept shifting and went right into the sun,” Trout said of the missed ball, via The Los Angeles Times. “I tried to do whatever I could to catch it, but I had no idea where it was.”

Trout was wearing sunglasses but said it didn’t even matter. Manager Mike Scioscia described it as a “heat lamp.”

Trout went 4-for-4 in the loss with a pair of singles, double and triple, yet the team managed just two runs. The Angels have lost eight of their last 10 games and were swept by the Jays and Indians in that span. Yuck.

Frank Clark accused by Chargers of trying to punch Philip Rivers (Video)

Frank Clark Philip Rivers

San Diego Chargers players were ticked off at Seattle Seahawks rookie Frank Clark after Saturday’s preseason game between the teams.

A few Chargers accused Clark of attacking Philip Rivers after a sack by Jordan Hill in the second quarter. Clark supposedly punched Rivers, but it’s very hard to tell from this camera angle:

The video definitely shows that Rivers grabbed Clark after being smothered by the rookie. I’m guessing a different angle would show Clark throwing Rivers a cheap shot, leading the quarterback to grab the rookie.

Chargers LT King Dunlap yanked Clark off Rivers and received a 15-yard penalty for his actions.

“That guy was on top of Philip, and that’s our quarterback,” Dunlap told The San Diego Union-Tribune. “I protect the quarterback at all costs.”

Clark was asked after the game about the incident.

“Man this game, it’s a lot of emotions is involved,” he said via The Seattle Times. “I’m a real emotional player but there are ways you react and ways you don’t react. You’ve got to be smart in this game. That was something Sherm (Richard Sherman) was telling me afterwards, that whole thing, even though I didn’t get called for anything, just to avoid situations like that.”

If Clark did throw a punch in the game, it would be nothing new for him; he was kicked off Michigan’s football team last year after being arrested for domestic violence for allegedly punching his then-girlfriend. Sweet guy.

Brian Harman treats media to beers, whiskey after making two holes-in-one

Brian Harman holes-in-one

Brian Harman made history on Sunday by carding two holes-in-one at The Barclays, becoming just the third golfer in PGA Tour history to sink a pair of aces in the same round.

Harman made his first ace on the par-3 third from 184 yards. His second came on the par-3 14th from 220 yards:

The last player to made two holes-in-one in the same round on tour was Japan’s Yusaku Miyazato at the Reno-Tahoe Open in 2006. Prior to that, you’d have to go back to amateur Bill Whedon, who did it in the 1955 Insurance City Open.

Harman was a good sport and stuck to tradition after making his aces. He treated the media to beers and whiskey:

Harman also said he had plans to meet with some friends at a bar in New York later that evening, so he figured the bar tab would get up there. Those numbers aren’t as high as the odds to make two holes-in-one, which is listed at 67 million to one.

Oh, and Harman finished tied for 30th at two under for the tournament. He shot a 68 Sunday, not that that really mattered.

Jake Arrieta pitches no-hitter against Dodgers (Video)

jake-arrieta-no-hitter

There had been five no-hitters in Major League Baseball this season. On Sunday, Jake Arrieta made it six.

The 29-year-old Arrieta went the distance, allowing just one walk while striking out 12 (including all three batters he faced in the ninth inning), as the Cubs won 2-0 on Sunday Night Baseball.

Arrieta picked up his major league-leading 17th victory of 2015 and became the first Cubs pitcher to throw a no-hitter since Carlos Zambrano on September 14, 2008 versus the Astros. It was Arrieta’s first career no-hitter. For the season, Arrieta has pitched to a 2.11 ERA and has recorded 190 strikeouts over 183 innings.

After the game, Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis congratulated Arrieta on his dominant outing.

Report: Redskins ownership stopping coaches from bailing on Robert Griffin

Jay Gruden Robert Griffin III

Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden and his staff reportedly want to move on from Robert Griffin III.

Shocking, right?

According to Adam Schefter and Dianna Russini of ESPN.com, several coaches and high-ranking front office officials want to bench RG3 but they are receiving resistance from ownership. The Redskins have reportedly discussed the possibility of trading Griffin, but there is hardly any interest and it is unclear if owner Daniel Snyder would allow a trade.

Griffin’s $16.1 million option for 2016, which was picked up by the team in April and is guaranteed for injury only, is the main reason there is little interest for him on the trade market. The Redskins also cannot cut an injured player, and if RG3 is seriously injured his 2016 salary will become guaranteed.

RG3 was not cleared to play in Saturday’s preseason game as he was nursing a concussion. He sent a curious tweet after being told he could not play, and reports have indicated that Kirk Cousins is expected to start for the Redskins in Week 1.

After Cousins completed 20-of-27 passes for 190 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a 31-13 preseason win over the Baltimore Ravens, Gruden appeared to backtrack on his insistence that Griffin is the team’s starting quarterback.

“I’m not going to announce anything. There’s no controversy,” Gruden said, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. “As far as who’s starting at every position, we’re going to evaluate that as a staff. I’m not going to make any announcements right now, that’s for sure.”

Schefter went on to note that Griffin is unlikely to keep his starting job even if the Redskins’ coaching staff loses its battle with ownership and is unable to trade or cut RG3.

We have known for a long time that Griffin is not Gruden’s guy. The Redskins have simply invested too much in him — and other first-round picks that have turned out to be busts — for ownership to be convinced to drop him. But if what we hear about Gruden’s attitude toward RG3 is true, the relationship needs to end.

D’Angelo Russell on Tracy McGrady tweet: There’s a lot of spoiled Lakers fans

Dangelo-Russell

Los Angeles Lakers fans were outraged last week when D’Angelo Russel, their team’s No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, tweeted that Tracy McGrady may have been the greatest player of all time.

“Honestly Tracy McGrady might have been the GOAT!” Russell wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted.

By saying McGrady may have been the best NBA player ever, Russell was essentially saying McGrady is better than D’Angelo’s new teammate Kobe Bryant. If you know how much Lakers fans worship Kobe, you’re not surprised by their reaction.

Russell already lost a few points with the McGrady tweet, and he may not win them back by calling Lakers fans “spoiled.” But that’s exactly what he said when Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News asked him about the tweet.

“There’s a lot of spoiled Lakers fans. I wasn’t downgrading Kobe at all,” Russell said over the weekend. “I was just watching a highlight tape of Tracy McGrady and I got excited. I tweeted and the whole state of California went crazy.”

Are Lakers fans spoiled? Many of them, yes. That’s what happens when a team dominates a sport for an extended period of time. Still, they probably won’t like hearing it from one of their newest players.

Russell’s tweet was nowhere near as bad as the one a different Lakers rookie sent several years ago, but he can’t expect fans to be rational. That’s asking way too much.

Odell Beckham Jr. trucks Darrelle Revis (Video)

Odell Beckham Jr. was one of the best wide receivers in the NFL in the 12 games he played last season, and the New York Giants star could be even better in 2015. He proved that on Saturday night when he went right at one of the greatest cornerbacks of all time.

Beckham caught five passes for 31 yards in limited action in a loss to the New York Jets. He was mostly defended by Darrelle Revis, and that didn’t seem to intimidate the 22-year-old at all. In addition to trucking Revis on the play you see above, Beckham also came close to making a highlight-reel grab over No. 24.

If Beckham stays healthy, he could wind up being the steal of the 2014 NFL draft. Yes, we know he was selected at No. 12 overall.

Most people learned about Beckham when he made one of the best catches you will ever see last season. If Saturday was any indication, there will be plenty more where that came from.

Rex Ryan jabs Jets for passing on Martavis Bryant

Rex-Ryan-Bills

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant is facing a four-game suspension for reportedly failing multiple marijuana tests, but he is still considered a breakout candidate entering his second NFL season.

Rex Ryan wishes he drafted the former Clemson star.

During a preseason win over Ryan’s Buffalo Bills on Saturday, Bryant caught three passes for 138 yards and a touchdown. One of them was a 63-yard bomb from Michael Vick in the first quarter.

“I wish I would’ve taken him,” Ryan told reporters, per NFL Network’s Albert Breer. “I wish I would’ve had the foresight to have drafted him.”

Was that Ryan’s way of taking a veiled swipe at the New York Jets? According to Jenny Vrentas of The MMQB, Ryan wanted to draft Bryant last year but was overruled.

We know things didn’t end well between Rex and the Jets. For evidence of that, look no further than the subtle jab he delivered toward his former team’s front office earlier this month. We’ll see how he does with a new team.

John Harbaugh was a total D-bag in halftime interview (Video)

John-Harbaugh-interview

The Baltimore Ravens played poorly against the Washington Redskins on Saturday night, and John Harbaugh decided to take out his frustrations on pretty much everyone.

It all started when a fight broke out in the first quarter, and Harbaugh walked over to Redskins coach Jay Gruden and screamed in his face. When asked about the incident at halftime, Harbaugh was in no mood to discuss it.

“I have nothing to say about that, Brent,” the Ravens coach told Brent Harris of Comcast SportsNet. “If you want to talk football I’m happy to talk football with you.”

Harris then switched the conversation to the play on the field, but Harbaugh didn’t like being asked about his team fumbling at the end of the half and missing an opportunity. All he said about that was, “You don’t want to fumble the ball.” Harris finally asked about Baltimore’s defense giving up a touchdown in the two-minute drill to close out the half.

“We don’t want to give up touchdowns in the two-minute at the end,” Harbaugh said. “Gimme a good question and I’ll answer it.”

Harbaugh and Harris shared an icy stare after that as Harbaugh made his way to the locker room.

When you watch the dirty tackle that started the fight in the first half, you can understand why Harbaugh was upset. That said, Harris asked perfectly fair questions in what is typically a quick and easy on-field interview. Harbaugh managed to turn it into pulling teeth.

Leo Santa Cruz tops Abner Mares in slugfest

abner-mares-leo-santa-cruz

Nonstop action. A toe-to-toe deathmatch. Two relentless brawlers spilling each other’s blood inside of the ring. These were some of the selling points promised to us ahead of Saturday night’s Premier Boxing Champions showdown between Abner Mares and Leo Santa Cruz, a couple of the sport’s most highly touted up-and-coming offensive fighters. And boy, did we get our money’s worth.

In the end, it was Santa Cruz (31-0-1, 17 KOs) who emerged victorious over Mares (29-2-1, 15 KOs) in the featherweight title fight by majority decision to remain undefeated. But triumph did not come easy by any means.

The first three rounds were characterized by merciless exchanges between the two fighters: the straights and counters of Santa Cruz vs. the combination flurries of Mares. It was like something straight out of a scene from Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo. With Mares setting the pace, both men put on a ferocious display, soundly rejecting the classic conservative notion of getting a feel for your opponent in the first few rounds in favor of diving headfirst into trench warfare. It was an absolute back-and-forth slugfest that moved a crowd of 13,109 at the Staples Center to its feet, holding their breaths wondering how much longer these fighters could keep up this pace.

It was Mares who appeared to tire first, as Santa Cruz began to work on a cut that had opened up on Mares’ right eye from an accidental headbutt in the third round. By the middle rounds, the vicious exchanges had subsided a bit and Santa Cruz’s reach advantage and precision took over, preventing Mares from working inside and from getting Santa Cruz on the ropes like he had successfully done to begin the fight.

But despite his face being beaten to a bloody pulp, Mares kept coming. He got his second wind towards the seventh or eighth round and managed to steal a couple of the later ones on the judges’ scorecards. However, by the championship rounds, Santa Cruz had landed some clean shots that snapped Mares’ head back, enough to make him appear disoriented and grasping for balance. And as Mares vainly sought a knockout in the twelfth, attempting to recapture some of the lightning in a bottle he had found early on, Santa Cruz managed to keep him at bay and connected with some well-timed counters to seal the victory.

The 27-year-old Santa Cruz took the bout on two judges’ scorecards by the final of 117-111, with a third judge scoring the fight a 114-114 draw. The official Compubox numbers had Santa Cruz landing 373 of 1057 punches (35%) while Mares managed to find the mark on 227 of 980 (23%).

“I was surprised Abner came out so strong,” said Santa Cruz after the fight. “He came right at me but we figured him out and got the win. I stayed outside with the jab. We were able to take control.”

“It was a close fight, but I thought I won,” said Mares of his effort. “My plan was to box him, but I started out really fast. I felt good but my corner told me to box more, so I did that. It was a good fight.”

And indeed it was with the raucous Staples Center crowd (mostly pro-Santa Cruz but with the occasional pro-Mares chant) on their feet going wild for the majority of the fight. Even former Laker and current Clipper Wesley Johnson, sitting ringside, was moved to his feet by the endless action. And it may have been even better for a home viewing audience who got treated to a made-for-pay-per-view classic for free on ESPN.

Now the only question left unanswered after Saturday night’s entertaining, action-packed battle is one that both fighters appeared keen on finding the answer to very soon. When’s the rematch?

John Daly taken to hospital after collapsing on course

John Daly was taken to the hospital to be treated after collapsing on the 18th hole while playing a course in Mississippi on Saturday, according to a report.

Yahoo Sports’ Pat Forde says Daly was playing at Deerfield Golf Club in Canton, Miss. and collapsed on the 18th tee box. He was taken to Baptist Medical Center and was being evaluated.

A friend told the AP that Daly’s vital signs were good, but he was being checked for possible injuries to his fingers or ribs.

“He was struggling pretty badly right before he collapsed,” club pro Leigh Brannan told the AP. “But we’re all hoping it’s nothing serious and that he was just a little dehydrated. He was even telling [Allen] he still wants to play [Sunday].”

The 49-year-old played in the PGA Championship and missed the cut after shooting a 73-82.

We’re wishing Daly a healthy recovery. Even if he proudly boasts that he doesn’t work out, this might be a warning that he needs to get in better shape.

Fan at Braves game taken to hospital after falling head-first from upper deck

Fan turner field

A fan is said to be in “grave condition” after falling from the upper deck at Turner Field all the way down to the concrete on the field level Saturday, according to reports.

The fan fell during the seventh inning when Alex Rodriguez was up pinch-hitting for the visiting Yankees. NJ.com cites eyewitnesses who say the fan was acting drunk and belligerent all game. The man apparently flew over the railing from the second row head-first. He was yelling at A-Rod:

A fan, who didn’t want to be named, in section 401, told NJ Advance Media it was a man, who was apparently drunk, screaming at the Yankees when A-Rod came to bat. This person said the man flew over her and her two sisters from a row behind her and barely touched them as he went.
[…]
She said the fan had been acting belligerently drunk all game. There was still a large wet stain on the railing in section 401 from what she said was his drink. The fans in the area soon left their seats with security, and several rows from the section were cleared out.

The Braves issued a statement about the matter.

“There was an accident during tonight’s game involving a fan,” the Braves said in a statement. “The fan was immediately treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital.”

Two years ago, another fan fell at Turner Field and died, though that case was ruled a suicide.
