The restoration and conversion of the 18th century farmhouse into a spectacular duplex is ground-breaking, with the architectural concept starting from two premises: Preservation of the historic building fabric while introducing spatial innovation. Thus, the interior of the former stable is now defined by a concrete cube that is rotated by 45 degrees and inserted into the roof, which is aligned to the geometry of the existing building and extends across its entire length. Alongside it, a second residential unit has been created that preserves the historic as far as possible and allows it to be perceptible. The bathrooms, too, within this contrasting architectural field of tension are unique. Using exposed concrete and expressive lighting, planners have created unique spaces, which in turn provide a unique context for the use of Dornbracht’s iconic designer fittings.
