Bill Belichick had hilarious exchange with referee Walt Coleman

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is generally a very serious person, especially on game day. But on Sunday, we got a rare glimpse at The Hoodie’s underrated sense of humor prior to his team’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Belichick was mic’d up for the game, which allowed us to hear the brief conversation he had with head referee Walt Coleman before kickoff. The two literally did the most cliche thing possible by chatting about the weather.

“This is about as nice as I’ve ever had up here in New England,” Coleman said. “I know you’re in charge of that, right?”

The joke was not lost on Belichick, who laughed and had a fantastic response.

“Yeah, I know. I get credit for everything bad,” he quipped.

Were Coleman and Belichick poking fun at the ridiculous headset incident from Week 1? I’m about 98 percent certain they were.

Bill-Belichick-Walt-Coleman

Whether you love Belichick or loathe him, you have to agree some of the accusations against the Patriots sound pretty ridiculous when viewed in this context. There was lightning in the area during New England’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1, yet people still were convinced Belichick had the courage to cheat in the wake of Deflategate and in front of a national audience. No wonder he had this to say after ESPN dropped its bombshell Outside the Lines report.

Rain and lightning? Blame Belichick. Sunshine and warmth? Be sure to thank him.
